What Our Customers Say
In recent months, I’ve discovered that an A or A+ rating with the BBB with no complaints does not necessarily mean that there will not be issues, problems, or employees telling me off … so it was very refreshing to work with Top Gun to get the front of my house painted. I really enjoyed talking to Carlos, Rafael, and their supervisor, Bill.
In March 2010, “Company A” gave us an estimate of $1120 to paint the front of our house. It was a little over our budget, so we asked to wait until later.
In May 2010, the company who stains our deck increased their price by hundreds of dollars and “Company A” offered to do the job for less. Some friends offered to help us and we finished the job in a little over a weekend, but told “Company A” that we were still interested in having him paint.
After the July 4th hail storm, we decided that with a new roof, siding, and gutters, that now was the time to get the front of the house painted. I called “Company A” and asked where painting the front of the house would fall into the mix. The reply was that “Company A” could do the entire project. I called back and said that I just needed the front of my house painted and, from the other contractors, figured that they should be after the roof and siding, but before the gutters.
I contacted my gutter company and they said that they would pay for the painters to remove the gutters. “Company A” said that since we weren’t contracting the gutters with his company that I needed to call the gutter company and tell them to do it and that he wasn’t interested in working with them and that he sold a product similar to LeafGuard and we would have saved a lot of money if we’d gone with him.
Wow. I’m not used to being told off by the owner of a company that I’m trying to contract with. “Company A” couldn’t find my estimate and said that they’d have to come out a third time to make sure that they could still honor my estimate.
I contacted Top Gun, which I found through the BBB website. They’re right around the corner from my house. Bill called at 8:45 am the next morning and was at my house before 9am. He estimated between $900 and $1000 for the job, which came in at $950, including the removal of the gutters. I called “Company A” back and told them that they didn’t need to come out for the third estimate.
Top Gun scheduled to paint my house on August 25, but I added that “the sooner the better.” On August 23, they appeared at my door and asked if it was OK to start early. I mentioned that I hadn’t had a chance to pull off a very sad flowerbox on the front of my house. They offered to do it for me and were concerned about the dirt getting everywhere. I mentioned a wheelbarrow and they took the flower box down for me. What a nice service!
Carlos and Rafael took the gutters down and asked if I needed them to put the gutters back up again. Nope, I’m getting new gutters and downspouts, so they could just leave them on the side of the house. How nice of them to offer!
About 11:30am, Carlos and Rafael said that they were going for an early lunch. They’d taken down a wasp nest from my house and the wasps were pretty angry, so they were going to give them a chance to quiet down. As far as I know, they didn’t get hurt, so I’m really glad! The wasps are still upset, by the way. Hopefully, they’ll find a new home on someone else’s house.
After lunch, I baked them cookies because they’ve been doing such a great job.
During the lunch hour, I walked outside and saw that there was bare wood behind the gutters. No one had ever taken the gutters down to paint our house before! I also pointed out that they put putty in the grooves of the wood and taped over the windows. I don’t remember any previous company doing that!
Due to rain, my job took a little longer than they expected, which might overlap with the gutter job. Bill came out that afternoon and painted the fascia so things were ready for the gutter guys to do their work.
I’ve already paid Top Gun for the job by calling in a payment to their office. As opposed to “Company B” who called back and asked when I was going to pay them (after I paid them), it was very easy to work with Top Gun and I got a confirmation code!
I’ve been very happy with my experience with Top Gun. The three of them did a final walk around the house to pick up bits of construction trash and left me with almost 2 full gallons of paint for touching things up! The entire process from estimate to completion took about a week and a half. I would definitely use this team again!
